Josianne Lalonde

Josianne is one of our founders and also one of our Yoga teachers at Yoga Chikitsa Nicaragua. Josi is a Certified Physical Rehabilitation Therapist, Yoga teacher, Alternative Medicine Practitioner, Therapeutic and Energetic Masseuse, and she also practices Vipassana Meditation. She started her career in Senegal practicing physiotherapy in a hospital where she treated people suffering from post-stroke symptoms, and different back and neck conditions. She has also worked in both public and private clinics in Montreal, Canada where she focused on intensive rehabilitation for patients that have undergone major surgeries such as knee and hip replacements as well as treating a variety of different musculoskeletal disorders due to car or work accident.

Meditation plays a big part in Josi’s life, looking for calmness and growth from a place within. On this path she has travelled to many different cultures, and studied the way they live and think. Through this journey she found yoga and enrolled in a 200 Hour TTC in Ashtanga Vinyasa at Sampoorna Yoga in India. She also discovered Vipassana and Reiki during her trip to India. When she came back from these experiences she realized how her understanding of health had changed, and it became obvious to her that a holistic approach was necessary to help heal many diseases.

She continued to study Yoga therapy at Sangha Yoga in Montreal (100 hours) and at the Andiappan Yoga Center in India (500 hours). She also did workshops on Yin and Iyengar Yoga to further deepen her knowledge and see how to combine physiotherapy and yoga.

When she is in Montreal she leads private meditation, guided relaxation, and yoga therapy session. She is also a Reiki master and has had many opportunities to give sessions around the world, with a residency at Maa Yoga Ashram in Rishikesh, India, where she also wrote a booklet name “Yoga off the Mat”.

Continuing on this never ending path toward growth and harmony Josianne feels an overwhelming urge to share her experiences and knowledge with others. She deeply believes that Yoga is therapy and can be used to empower oneself to prevent or cure many different illnesses. Physiotherapy is the scientific foundation of her understanding of the physical body while asanas, meditation, pranayamas, natural therapy, and reiki are ways of life for a healthier mind, body and spirit.

If yoga is the path to the higher consciousness of your own physical, mental, emotional and spiritual body, Yoga Chikitsa is the path to learn how to use it as a therapy with a deeper understanding of the human being.
